What Is the Distinction Between Web and Graphic Design?

  • Dec 15, 2021

“Web design and graphic design are two independent disciplines, aren’t they?” a friend recently inquired. As a result of my education in several design concepts, I am now aware of the discrepancies. For example, there are fundamental distinctions between web design and graphic design, UX vs. UI vs. IA vs. IxD, and Flat Design vs. Material Design. Each of the terms refers to a distinct occupation. Designers’ creations, on the other hand, have a cross-section from the perspective of design.

Although web design and graphic design appear to be an inconsequential group, people are frequently perplexed by them. In general, Malaysia website designers and graphic designers are referred to as “art designers” by the general public. Because of the participation of artistic ability and creative capacity, their work is misconstrued. Furthermore, the design tools they employ are nearly the same, and they are capable of performing tasks linked to web design or graphic design. This is actually based on a misunderstanding of the design industry’s terminology.

What is the definition of Web Design?

Web design is a broad term that incorporates a wide range of skills and disciplines that are used in the creation and maintenance of websites. Web graphic design, interface design, writing, both standardised code and proprietary software, user experience design, and search engine optimization are some of the different aspects of web design. The design process is often divided into teams, with each team member responsible for a particular aspect of the process, while some designers are responsible for all of them.

What exactly is Graphic Design and how does it function?

Graphic design is a visual communication and problem-solving technique that employs one or more of the following media: typography, photography, and illustration, to name a few. The phrases “graphic design” and “communication design” are sometimes used interchangeably, despite the fact that graphic design is regarded to be a subset of visual communication and communication design.

Graphic designers produce visual representations of ideas and messages by combining symbols, images, and text in a variety of combinations. Typography, visual arts, and page layout approaches are all used to create visual compositions by these designers.
